About this person
Age 52, pensioner with diverse interests including art, music, writing, social policy, health advocacy.

I have been displaced from my home where they are doing decontamination of an old glassworks site due to severe chemical sensitivities being triggered. Unable to go home until project finished, or maybe not at all.

Obviously, I presently am quite chemically sensitive after chronic chemical exposure. This is a serious issue and causes considerable difficulties trying to find share accomodation. I am unable to be well around things like scented candles, air fresheners, incense, strong deodorants, perfume, cologne, highly soaps, fabric softeners and washing powders, fragranced bin liners are the bane of my life.

My washing is done in my husband’s washing machine as I get bad skin irritation even washing in a machine that has had anything but nappy san equivalent.

I have some products like dishwashing liquids and cleaners that don’t cause me too many problems and am willing to swap out anything at my expense if necessary. There, that is probably the worst of it.

I have raised a family so familiar with running a household. I have NDIS support to help with some practical things as energy levels can vary. I have access to a cleaner and gardener to do “my share” of regular deep cleaning, as well as, gardening. I would have support workers come to the house to do a large “cook up” on occasion and at other times for company and lifts. Other than that I am both keen and able to keep the general areas clean and tidy.

I have had to move away from my family. My husband, Bruce, is my offical carer and would be visiting fairly regularly but generally only staying over night 2-3 a week maximum. He would visit at other times though. We didn’t live together before I had to leave my home so have never “lived in each other’s pockets”but I would like somewhere he is at least able to hang out in my room and watch TV whenever. He is friendly, respectful and polite. Can be shy at first but is a lovely supportive person in my life and the life of others.

I can be social but also take a lot of time to myself. I enjoy company but can also spend a lot of time in my room resting. I am extremely respectful of the privacy of others. Despite loads of time resting, the opposite can be true and go out of the house a lot for appointments, and recreation activities like choir, writing lesson and singing lessons. I also love to walk on the beach for exercise and sanity.
Important personal qualities
Respectful of place, space and people.

Compassionate but will always ask consent to see is support is welcomed.

I am considerate of other people’s space. Can hold an interesting meaningful conversation but also like to take space in my room and chill.

I have many interests and love hearing about out people’s passions, interests and dreams.

Not the best small talker but always polite. I’ve studied all sorts of disciplines from the arts, health, and law. Very passionate about organisational psychosocial safety and bringing out the best in communities- sports clubs -to government departments.

I can also be totally silly and spontaneous and forget about all the deep and meaningful stuff in the world. Love walking on the beach and nature, I want to do more camping and traveling. Hang out at a jazz band or explore an art gallery. Also enjoy playing rugby union but I’m a bit too old now!

Most importantly, I prefer to have open conversations if any issues arise. I have a background in mediation so coming to any “problems” in good faith to come up with new solutions and understanding is important to me.

I’ll be totallyup front - Persistent loud noice can become an issue for me but that does not mean living in a monastery. If I can shut my door and it is tolerable that is fine, I kind of mean things like the TV being on full blast all day and night, or the same heavy music on repeat, sniper first person shooter games on full blast a lot…. You get the idea. I actually love all types of music and having it playing in the house when people are enjoying adds to the richness of life.

Don’t mind sharing with single parents. Smaller ones, through to Gen z’s still hanging around. Neurologically sparkly people will be well loved,

As mentioned above I currently have some chemical sensitivities so will need to discuss cleaning products. Prepared to pay additional costs for products. An opportunity to reduce toxicity in your life 🤷‍♀️ Gosh damn, the hippies were right! I’m not anti-chemicals but sometime chemicals are anti-me.
Food sharing and furniture
Generally I am happy to arrange my own food but cooking and having a meal a two a week together would be nice. I guess it depends on people’s preferences for foods, budgets etc. lifestyle. I can cook but I don’t actually enjoy it all that much unless cooking with others as part of community. Happy to fend for myself but also can get behind a night where people put together whatever they have make a feast of what is in the fridge etc. So, flexible I guess. Been a long time since I have lived in a shared house. Again, communication always the best way through.

I have access to some furniture that is held up at my home I can’t currently reside in. Living the simple life for a bit I guess. I have a whole home and life waiting for my return or when I find a more perminant home.
