A good flat mate should be friendly and respectful. Be able to hold a conversation. Clean up after themselves. They should be approachable and willing to iron out any issues that may occur within the household, without becoming defensive or aggressive.

Food sharing and furniture
Currently I have minimal funiture in my possession. If needed, what I can't get my hands on, I have no issue with purchasing.
As I live an extremely busy lifestyle sharing meals or food regularly is not an option. However if others are around and there is enough, I would most likely offer to share a meal. It's the friendly social thing to do in my opinion.
