I think its about space, you need to be able to give housemates enough space to be comfortable, you need to respect the space they live in. For me i like a balance of social and alone time, I don't want a phantom housemate that only appears briefly and then isn't seen again, but at the same time i need some time for me.
Food sharing and furniture
I love sharing food but happy to keep my own as well. Or do both. Furniture wise i have a bar fridge and a dining table that i can bring along. Other than that nothing really for a living room.
