Home Description

Description of the home

We are looking for a lovely person to share our cosy 2-storey apartment in Turner with us. The apartment has 3 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms, plus lots of natural light. Your room has a beautiful view over tree tops and onto Black Mountain, with gorgeous sunsets and sunrises. There is a built-in closet, and we can provide it either furnished or unfurnished. If furnished, it would include a double bed, a small desk and book-shelf as seen in the photos. You would also have your own bathroom (next to the bedroom). Our bedroom and bathroom is upstairs, so we would share the kitchen and lounge and there is a small study which doubles as a guest room if you’d like to have anyone to stay.

The apartment has a 6 star energy rating, so keeps pretty warm and cosy in the winter. There is a reverse cycle system both downstairs and upstairs for heating and cooling. Outside, we have our own balcony and there is a lovely big green common space at the back of the apartment complex with a large courtyard (where we are working on building a beggie garden, which you are encouraged to join in on!) and BBQ area, and a locked underground carpark with space for a car and bike(s) if you have one. We are opposite Turner School, 5mins bike ride from ANU, and a 10-15 minute walk into Braddon / the city. It is a very quiet neighborhood and the O’Connor shops are across the oval.

About occupants
We are a queer couple (both 36yo, one female, one non-binary) and are friendly, curious, creative, gentle people who love nature, animals, art, music & poetry. We also value sleep and having a calm, tidy, cosy home to retreat to. One of us works in nature conservation, is a part time artist (pottery/ceramics), and is about to commence postgraduate studies in social work. The other works in climate change advocacy, is a part-time counsellor (specialising in complex trauma and climate grief), writes (incl. poetry), and endurance runner. One of us is neurodivergent (ADHD) and the other lives with an invisible disability (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and chronic pain). One of us is vegetarian and the other an omnivore. Neither of us drink alcohol but we don’t mind if others do or if it’s in the house. We care a lot about the world, people, animals, and try to live as joyful and meaningful a life as possible.
Compatible people
We are looking for someone in a similar life stage to us, who shares our values, is clean and tidy, warm, friendly and a good communicator. We would love to do things together from time to time (e.g. share meals, garden, go to the farmers market, hangout) but also value our own space and would always respect yours too. We work mainly from out of home and would prefer someone who doesn’t work predominantly from home, but are totally fine with occasional wfh arrangements. One of us sees counselling clients online at home in the late afternoon / evenings so uses the study (a closed room) for that a few days per week. We are also considering getting a kitten in the next few months, but if this was a dealbreaker for you (e.g. you have a cat allergy) then we would happily put this on hold / get a turtle ;) We are a strictly non-smoking house.
