Home Description

Description of the home

Gorgeous, light-filled 1880s terrace in Redfern in heritage listed area. It’s just undergone 18 months of renos including a new kitchen and new wrought iron balustrade on your balcony.

Loads of art and books. Plenty of privacy for each tenant. Well-equipped kitchen, dishwasher, gas cooking and heating, separate living and dining rooms. Great house to entertain in but also a peaceful retreat. Bath. Sound system. Smart TV with streaming services and DVD/VCR.

North-east facing backyard with orchids, palms, chillis and some herbs. I want someone that can care for this when I'm away - it's low maintenance. There is an external laundry with washing-machine and retractable clothes line.

The room has an excellent queen bed, massive built-ins, fold-out desk, bedside tables and lamps.

8 minute walk to Redfern station, two blocks from cafes and bars but still peaceful. 10 mins to Chinatown, Surry Hills and Central, 15 to Centennial Park and Newtown.

About the occupants
I’m a writer, artist and casual teacher. I work at home, traditional daytime hours though I sometimes work on weekends too. I'm often out in the evening but when home like to cook, read, watch TV, have friends over. I like a house where people can work and relax in equal measure. I like having the occasional dinner with my housemates. I also value my privacy and don't need to socialise every day.
Compatible people
I'm looking for a queer or queer-friendly 35+ yrs old. GSOH, fully occupied/employed, able to take initiative with domestic tasks and share space harmoniously. The rent is cheaper than usual to prioritise low income earners: artists, activists, social workers, post grads, etc.

A housemate who likes gardens and cats is essential as occasionally I go away for the weekend, and you'd need to look after both. People can smoke outside.
Description of pets
I just adopted a kitten called Cyril. He's a smoochy, social tuxedo tabby who doesn’t scratch a single inappropriate thing let alone human. He has a boyfriend called Ringo, the tabby from next door. He's allowed outside during the day, where he hangs with Ringo, and kept inside at night.
