Home Description

Description of the home

*Move date negotiable*

Two platonic friends Marianne (french gal) and Hugh (aussie guy) are looking for a person to replace our outgoing housemate Luca who is moving on!

Our house is the best. It's a bright spacious 3.5 bedroom house on a tree lined street, the spare room/office has a foldout as a guest room!

There are two bathrooms, a large kitchen, a dining room, a separate sunroom. A large sunny back yard which opens out to Wimbo Park. We can see Bourke street bakery from our backyard (but we think there are better bakeries in town).

We are close to public transport: busses on taylor square take you anywhere, 15 minute walk to central, trams galore (five minutes up hill to the tram stop in Surry Hills).
In terms of cars and driving; We can get you a street parking permit.

We are social, but we are not a 'party every night' kind of house, we both have full time jobs (Hugh works as a scientist working for the government, and Marianne works for a translation company), and we are looking for someone in a similar mindset.

Happily the house is big enough to hermit sometimes, or watch movies/dine together at other times. We have Binge, netflix, disney+, nintendo, and playstation, we also have a BBQ outside, a washer and dryer, a piano and tons of space in the house (and an attic, useful for storing stuff!).

There are great gyms in the area (HISCOES!) and obviously bars and cafes everywhere. We love beach trips and sometimes go on house adventures.

We also have a useful storage room in the attic which is quite handy in the inner city!

Absolutely central to all transport - 15 minute walk down Devonshire street to central, five minutes to crown street for busses, 10 minutes to Taylor square, two minutes to Bourke Street Bakery (aka BSB), two and a half minutes to the local pub (the carrington) three and a half minutes to Cricketer's Arms (the Crix) and a variety of Italian pizza places and all that Crown and Bourke street have to offer.

About occupants
Hi, I'm Hugh.
I have lived in Surry Hills since 2014 when I returned from finishing my PhD in the south of France. I work in the field of biotechnology designing DNA sequences and testing them out. I make my own wine, and I have worked in Australia and internationally as a cheesemonger. I am very committed to my work and often come home quite tired, and ready for a glass of wine and some time in front of netflix, cooking and or reading. I try to be social and hang out in the living room but an am a bit of an ambivert and sometimes like to hide in my bedroom! I love going out too, particularly to the cricketer's arms to catch live jazz and great beer and wine. I speak fluent french, like a chilled out time and love people who enjoy just chatting drinking and eating in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Hi my name is Marianne!
I'm from France and I've been living with Hugh for a few years now. I moved to Australia in 2017 with work and have been working in translation for a film/tv company. I'm very easy going and friendly and love drinking wine and chilling out. Recently I've picked up indoor soccer which is a bit of a challenge, but lots of fun. I work five days a week and on the weekends love to go out for coffee/brunch, meet up with friends for dinner, explore sydney and I travel quite a bit too.
Compatible people
We have occasional house bbqs where everyone can bring their friends but generally like to have a peaceful and tranquil oasis of a home.
We love to watch movies together in the sunroom, and as it is quite far from the bedrooms it is generally not too noisy if we have a friend over for Sunday lunch or chats in the sunroom or back yard!

We love someone with a sense of humour and fun, someone who might occasionally chill and drink wine after work, and someone who is relaxed and mature about life and personal responisbility.
